Director - Communications and Engagement

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an extraordinary leader with a communication and engagement background, to build on the existing skills we have in the business, grow a team and set strategic direction. In this role you will lead the development and training of leading-edge communication and engagement skills and have a good understanding of how to practically apply them, in ways that add value to services that differentiate AECOM in the marketplace. As a Director in our business you will be leading communication and engagement support for cross-business line planning, design and construction projects.

The successful candidate for this role will be nominated as the Communications and Engagement Director for Te Tupu Ngātahi (the Supporting Growth Alliance). The Supporting Growth Alliance is a collaboration between Auckland Transport and the NZ Transport Agency to plan transport investment in Auckland’s future urban zoned areas over the next 10 to 30 years. This is an extremely exciting and influential role to contribute at an Alliance Management Team level with core responsibilities including overseeing the preparation and delivery of a communications and engagement strategy, identifying and managing key risks and issues arising from external stakeholder interests in the programme, and managing the media and public presentation communications from the Alliance. Minimum Requirements

Utilise your sound leadership knowledge of strategic projects and ownership of client relationships to influence outcomes and build relationships. Clients will rely on your proven experience in developing and implementing project communication and community engagement strategies on projects with a high level of public visibility to provide expert advice to set them up for success on projects, solve their communication challenges, enhance their stakeholder and community relationships and ultimately sustain and strengthen their reputation. Your demonstrated ability to strongly contribute within leadership forums both functionally and as a team player will set you up for success in this role.

Knowledge and understanding of the legislation around route protection including the RMA and NoR processes is essential together with a proven background in giving evidence as an expert witness, preferably at Council, Court and/or Board of Inquiry processes. Ideally, you will have had exposure to working in an Alliance Model and understand commercial arrangements and frameworks used within professional consultancy services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • IAP2 Certificate in Engagement
  • Working knowledge of engagement management software
