Senior Engineering Geologist

Job Summary

The AECOM Ground Engineering and Tunneling team is looking for a Senior Engineering Geologist to join their established and growing Auckland office. This role offers you an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of our 40 strong national Ground Engineering team, to work with and support colleagues from a variety of engineering and environmental disciplines and to assist in the growth of our Ground Engineering and Tunneling team.

You will get exposure to large scale infrastructure projects and plenty of scope to develop your career in the direction you choose. In the role you will provide engineering geology support for engineering design involving general earthworks and pavements, foundations to structures, soil and rock slope stabilisation, bridges and terrain assessment, quarries, and terrain assessment for transport and infrastructure corridors.

Role responsibilities

  • Assist with scoping site investigations and have the ability to analyse field data to develop geological and geotechnical models.
  • Assist with planning and undertaking geological assessments across a wide range of engineering projects.
  • Presentation of detailed geological and geomorphological models on tunnelling, rock cut slopes, foundations, transport corridors, development sites, dredging sites and other projects.
  • Assist with planning, undertaking investigations and reporting for material borrow sites for rock armour, rail ballast, road construction materials and embankment fill materials including an assessment of suitability.
  • Carry out site visits to inspect works and interpret site conditions to support construction supervision activities.
  • Slope stability and liquefaction assessment
  • Assisting in preparation of bids and proposals and attending meetings with clients and contractors both internal and external.
  • Effectively manage personal time, costs and ensure project profitability

Minimum Requirements

We are interested to hear from engineer geologists with>7 years' experience with a proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and able to demonstrate:

  • Strong site investigation and interpretation experience.
  • Experience with RocScience software, gINT, CLiq liquefaction software
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Strong report writing and experience with contractual communication.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Desire to assist in mentoring of junior staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (Geology) or Bachelor of Geology is essential
