Our Wellington Environment team is looking for a standout Environmental Scientist, as part of accelerating growth of our Environment team and Geo-Remedial Science practice across New Zealand. We are looking for passionate and high performing team players, who enjoy challenging and rewarding work with a focus on contaminated sites managing projects, and want to share in our client’s successes while delivering on interesting projects. This role can be based in either New Plymouth or Wellington.

As a Senior or Principal Environmental Scientist in our business you are someone who has a keen interest in growing and building client relationships, identifying and winning opportunities, delivering projects, and at times being part of a multidisciplinary project team delivering pieces of large projects. Your experience in oil and gas contaminated sites will set you apart but is not essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Geo-Remedial Science and Environment team and help in the delivery of regular project work for key clients. You will also have the opportunity to become immersed in the pursuit of new opportunities. Our team comprises a range of professionals including environmental scientists and engineers, resource management and urban planners, sustainability specialists, and ecologists who are all passionate about making a positive impact on our local communities and natural environment for the present and into the future.

The role

As a Senior or Principal Environmental Scientist, you will play a key role in project managing and delivering environmental investigations of contaminated sites and remedial design. You will also play a key role in developing and enhancing client relationships and winning work. This role can be based in either New Plymouth or Wellington.

The role will involve:

  • Providing leadership and technical expertise on environmental investigation and remedial design projects

  • Preparing site investigation reports, remedial design reports, work plans, specifications, and project management

  • Mentoring and oversight of team members, including field-based staff, often working with earthworks, drilling, and other contractors

  • Identify and develop new business development initiatives

  • Working closely with our RMA planners and sustainability and resilience consultants, and Civil Infrastructure and Power teams

  • Mobility – You might be working on projects across the country, or in Australia

Minimum Requirements

  • 7-12+ years’ experience working on contaminated sites and remediation projects

  • Demonstrate a wide range of technical and project management experience, including leading project teams, with a focus on contamination and risks to human health and the environment

  • Experience in oil and gas projects desirable, but not essential

  • Previous experience in providing support and mentorship to team members

Preferred Qualifications

An Environmental Science or Geology qualification (or similar)
