As a key member of the multi-discipline transport team the Senior Professional Transport Engineer will be part of a high performing team of transportation engineers, designers and drafters to deliver projects on time, to budget and of high quality. The successful candidate will also be responsible for development of effective client relationships to deliver growth of the team through repeat business and identification and establishment of new clients.

This role will look after project set-up, project delivery, technical quality and resource allocation to lead an engaged and motivated project team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer to grow their experience, working as part of a high performing, close-knit Waikato Transportation team, with contact and support from other regions and global technical specialists. In addition to providing technical input and advice, you will be given the opportunity to work directly with clients, expanding your business development and networking skills. You will guide and mentor junior engineers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline.

This role will suit a person of at least 5 years’ experience who is looking to take a next step up in their professional career. You will be a people person who is can work as part of a team, but also provide trusted advice to a range of clients such as developers, Council staff and other professionals.

Your day to day role will include:

  • Take a leading role on multi-disciplinary transportation and civil projects.

  • Provide design management and options analysis, and influence projects to generate innovative and high quality design outcomes.

  • Act as project manager, or design manager, or both, on our multi-disciplinary transportation projects.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to the designers, CAD drafters and young engineers in the team.

  • Liaise with the Project or Design Manager (if applicable) to identify changes of scope, resourcing and/or priority of packages that may impact delivery against schedule.

  • Liaise with stakeholder groups during the development of designs.

  • Generate fee and programme estimates to negotiate contracts with Clients.

  • Preparation of physical works cost estimates and drafting of contract documents for construction.

  • Engineer’s Representative experience is an advantage.

Minimum Requirements

You will likely hold at least 5 years post graduate experience and able to demonstrate:

  • A can-do attitude with the ability to operate within and lead high performing teams

  • Technical experience in the planning, design and management of transportation projects, including geometric road design, barrier design and signs & lines design.

  • Developing experience in design leadership role for a transport project.

  • Be familiar with NZTA, Austroads, HCC (ITS & RITS) and ATCOP standards and guidelines.

  • Good experience ranging from concept to detailed design and construction phases of multidisciplinary transport projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent

  • Eligible for membership to the Engineering New Zealand

  • Be working towards, or have attained Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent overseas professional recognition
