About the role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide timely, relevant, and high-quality research on macroeconomic and financial issues, particularly in relation to interest rates and FX markets, with a strong focus on global markets
  • Work in conjunction with the NZ Chief Economist and wider Economics team to support sustainable growth across the business and assist clients in meeting their business aims
  • This role also represents the bank locally at a CEO and CFO and Director level through the provision and representation of quality interest rate and FX research and the provision of value-added client solutions

  

Role Location: Auckland/Wellington

Role Type: Permanent

Reports to: Sharon Zollner, NZ Chief Economist

Working Hours: Standard hours with flexibility available

  

About you

We are looking for a self-starter; a customer-focused effective communicator with a sound understanding of interest rates and FX markets in a New Zealand context who can build relationships both within the bank and externally 

Skills, knowledge & experience

  • Bachelor of Economics or Finance (or equivalent). Honours and relevant post-grad studies well regarded
  • Experience in an economic policy-making institution (e.g. RBNZ), or as an economist/strategist in a financial institution
  • Thorough knowledge of the New Zealand economy, including the principal economic policy-making institutions and the evolution of both financial markets and economic policy
  • Ability to apply modern quantitative and statistical techniques to the analysis and forecasting of the New Zealand economy, interest rates and exchange rates
  • Familiarity with the range of economic data issued by Statistics New Zealand and other organisations
  • Well organised and proactive, including the ability to develop networks with key customers, influencers, the broader business community, government institutions and politicians
