Lead Engineer - APIs and Microservices

Join one of NZ’s largest technology shops; offering huge scope for opportunity. We are looking for a driven lead engineer with solid API skills who will help accelerate the team on their mission. You will be instrumental in building strategy and lead it to delivered software. Additionally, you will develop a team with your platform lead that will help accelerate our API strategy. You will also be a role model and coach for new engineers. The ideal candidate should be someone who motivates and can work with a diverse group of talented engineers and serve as a sounding board for ideas or technical discussions.

 
About The Role

In this role, you would need to:

  • Thrive in a fast-paced agile environment, working with some really smart people focussing on outcomes and delivering on business objectives.
  • Identify, investigate, and manage incidents and problems, ensuring minimal impact on the delivery of services to our stakeholders
  • Takes pride in proactively working with our stakeholders and understanding their requirements to deliver best in class solutions with a constant view of improving developer experience.
  • Be able to evangelise our decentralised API model, and provide support to the other teams on their API and micro services journey
  • Embed culture and practices that encourage and nurture trusted partnerships to achieve better outcomes for ANZ and its customers.
  • Enjoy managing stakeholders and ensuring expectations are exceeded.
  • Communicate confidently, adapting style based on audience needs.
  • Use knowledge of key business and industry drivers to identify and evaluate new concepts and strategies that add value, balancing stakeholder and organisational goals

 

Role Location: Wellington

Role Type: Permanent, with plenty of flexible work options available; flexi-place, flexi-hours.

 
About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally be able to demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated experience with API Management (concepts and capabilities, Security, Authentication, Policies, SOAP, Restful service design principles, API versioning, etc.).
  • Proven API strategy development and management experience and tangible success stories
  • Experience with API integration patterns and programming standards and how best they apply on our API management tools and cloud based platforms.
  • 4+ years Hands on development experience with API/Micro-services.
  • Experience working with leading technologies enabling DevOps (CI & CD processes)
  • Experience designing and implementing IT solutions architecture for both COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) and bespoke software solutions including integration with multiple on-premise and cloud-hosted systems.
  • Ability to deliver complex technology programs in agile environments
  • Understand full life-cycle integration platforms in SaaS environments
  • Good knowledge/working experience in AWS/GCP/Azure.
