Senior Service Designer, Wavespace, Wellington

EY wavespace locations feature a shared methodology and connected platform that combines EY’s experience in disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, RPA, blockchain, analytics and cyber security, with EY’s design thinking methodology, customer experience capability and deep industry and functional business experience.

We are interested in speaking to curious, creative, collaborative thinker-tinkerers who are not afraid of challenges, who are used to working in an agile way, and who are comfortable engaging with decision makers from the highest levels of some of New Zealand’s most interesting and complex organisations.

 
The Opportunity
 
What will you be doing at EY?

  • Leading our Wellington based service design offering, based in the new Wellington wavespace location (currently under construction)
  • Developing events to showcase the EY wavespace, our projects, and the mindsets frames and methods we use in the market
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships across Wellington with clients and fellow practitioners to raise the profile of EY in the field
  • Developing positive and productive working relationships with colleagues across the broader EY partnership
  • Owning and managing the delivery of successful projects, including working closely with clients, sponsors and other stakeholders
  • Working easily with others from both the Wellington and Auckland EY teams on design thinking projects to develop insights and concepts across a broad spectrum of needs from very high level strategic questions down to detailed functional product and service design
  • Facilitating groups to think differently in ways that
    • put understanding of the customer first
    • integrate diverse perspectives to challenge assumptions about the problem
    • engage the full range of human senses (aural, visual, physical)
    • always have a pathway to action.
  • Using story crafting skills to create/direct vivid narratives about the design challenge, process, and results
  • Acting with as a champion and coach across the business to develop awareness of EY wavespace, the disciplines of design thinking and how it can drive innovation more successfully at EY and for our clients

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Strong profile in the design, service design or innovation space , preferably in Wellington
  • Deep, well established and positive customer relationships in relevant organisations
  • Have strong evidence in their careers of combining intellectual curiosity and empathy to solve problems together with customers, citizens, or employees
  • Have 7-10 years experience in innovation, product or service design in a leading organization in NZ or overseas
  • Highly experienced and comfortable facilitating challenging groups of project participants, at very senior levels
  • Are not purists about method, but enjoy integrating different disciplines to achieve project objectives
  • Enjoy learning from others in adjacent fields, and can appreciate, align and discuss the intersections between design thinking and other technical, strategic or specialised areas of consulting and business
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning including external qualifications, relevant training, and participation in industry and ecosystem events and activities
  • Are a pragmatic team player; contributing a thoughtful perspective ultimately focused on action
  • Enjoy working in a start-up environment, prefers building new teams rather than inheriting a group and operation that is already established - comfortable with being uncomfortable
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit while working in a way that builds trust and respect.
