Technology Innovation Lead, Wavespace, Auckland

EY Wavespace is a global network of growth and innovation centres. Here our clients can explore and develop new ideas, in collaboration with technologists, business strategists, data scientists and experience designers.

The EY wavespace global network brings together multi-disciplinary talents, unique capabilities and IP, in custom designed, flexible working environments. We help our clients answer critical questions and build new products and services, for customers, staff and partners alike.

EY wavespace locations feature a shared methodology and connected platform that combines EY’s experience in disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, RPA, blockchain, analytics and cyber security, with EY’s design thinking methodology, customer experience capability and deep industry and functional business experience.

The Opportunity:

  • A role focused exclusively on applying new and emerging technologies to solve interesting client problems – unashamedly focused on the cutting edge, not the proven and established
  • Help us understand how new tech can be applied creatively to our clients needs and problems
  • Provide context, guidance and thought leadership – how might new technology change consumer behaviour and impact business or organisation strategy, performance and outcomes?
  • Working collaboratively on the development of cutting edge solutions to client problems or questions in our new design thinking and innovation space
  • Focusing on the high level solution design, technology architecture, and building out a working model for testing with real customers or users at the MVP and prototype stage
  • Addressing a range of problems which will be very broad and diverse
  • Turning your hand to a number of solutions across a variety of platforms, both to develop on and to integrate with
  • Working with some of the latest and most interesting technologies and some of New Zealand’s most challenging organisations
  • Being the champion for technology driven design and innovation in the wavespace, and an evangelist, educator and advisor for our team
  • Become the futurist and technology strategist at EY and participate and collaborate with others across the global wavespace network

Skills and Attributes for Success:

We are interested in speaking to curious, creative, collaborative thinker-tinkerers who are not afraid of challenges, who are used to working in an Agile way, and who are comfortable engaging with decision makers from the highest levels of some of New Zealand’s most interesting and complex organisations.

To qualify for the Role:

  • Are the ultimate ‘technology’ generalist with a strategic, creative mindset
  • Be able to participate in a broad range of conversations and subjects – can hold their own (and more) in a conversation among CIO’s and EA’s, with strategists and also talking development or infrastructure with more technical audiences
  • Demonstrate experience in key areas of emerging tech such as IoT, automation, analytics, artificial intelligence, blockchain, AR/VR…you know the sort of thing…
  • Have a good working knowledge across a broad range of programming languages - We are interested in stuff like Java, Python, Ruby, Objective-C, SQL...(what can you bring to the table?)
  • Have experience building services that may operate on or integrate with an equally wide range of source systems, hosting environments and 3rd parties and systems like SAP, IBM Watson, Service Now, other cloud services, a bunch of data warehouses, and the usual mix of dodgy spreadsheets, boxes under desks, you name it….
  • Are a ‘creative developer’ who loves problem solving, will contribute to the big idea alongside our service designers and subject matter experts and can work with the wider team to bring that vision to reality
  • Will be very comfortable working with some ambiguity, in an agile environment, sometimes taking the lead and operating independently, sometimes working closely in a large team
  • Have significant experience of design thinking and rapid prototyping of the services created, or in the product management and iteration of product in a live environment
  • Someone who has a bit of a business spirit, with the capability to interact with clients and explain their work to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Bring some real world experience – in a start-up, or SaaS, or a product role, or in life
  • Are engaged with the wider community of developers, entrepreneurs, and digital practitioners in New Zealand and is committed to continually learning, growing and upping their game

What’s in it for you?

  • Work in a small, agile & start-up like environment, but with the scale and support of a corporate
  • Build your experience working in a respected global organization with some of the biggest brands in the country – and collaborate and work alongside a global network of like-minded people
  • Work on exciting and interesting projects for some of NZ’s most challenging organizations both in the public and private sector to build a better working world
  • Access to the latest tools, technology and solutions
  • The freedom and flexibility to handle your role in a way that’s right for you

What we look for

We are interested in leaders with a genuine creative vision and the confidence to make it happen. You can expect plenty of autonomy in this role, so you’ll also need the ability to take initiative and seek out opportunities to improve our current relationships and processes. If you’re serious about all things digital and are ready to take on some of our clients’ most complex issues, this role is for you.
