Geotechnical Engineer

Aurecon are seeking to appoint a Geotechnical Engineer with at least 3 years professional experience to join our well established ground engineering team in Christchurch.

Our team are looking for a junior to intermediate level engineer to undertake a broad range of geotechnical specific tasks including site investigation, analysis, design, reporting, and construction supervision. Your work will be supported by a well-established ground engineering team of senior to experienced level geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and environmental scientists who will provide you with technical guidance and mentoring to further develop your skills and experience. Our team delivers projects of all sizes and complexities, and work in a diverse range of markets ranging from land development and commercial/industrial building development to transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.  The team has a strong digital innovation focus and this is continually developing and evolving.   Some of the current projects that the team are involved with include:

  • North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Rebuild (NZTA and KiwiRail recovery work following the Kaikoura 2016 earthquake)
  • Christchurch Northern Corridor
  • Many commercial buildings in Christchurch and the wider area
  • Plus assisting other offices nationally and internationally on large projects

Candidates should demonstrate good experience in development of ground models and identification of geotechnical risk, and will be required to undertake a range of geotechnical analyses and design primarily focussing on the issues of liquefaction assessments, seismic design of foundations and retaining wall design, slope stability and settlement. The ideal candidate will be an outgoing and energetic person who shows a natural willingness and enthusiasm to tackle new challenges, who is reliable and dependable, and who can easily integrate into a collaborative team environment.

The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following key attributes:

  • Tertiary qualified (Bachelor of Engineering), and 3+ years' relevant work experience
  • Good experience in geotechnical analysis and design
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in site investigation and ground modelling
  • A willingness to occasionally travel to other offices if necessary if projects require it
  • A collaborative team member
  • A valid full NZ drivers licence
