General Manager Rail Operations, Auckland


The role

Reporting to the Managing Director Auckland, and a key part of the Senior Leadership Team, this is a critical leadership role responsible for the overall safe, reliable, and cost-effective train services that meet the needs of the customer.

Managing a team of direct reports, and responsible for a large, operational workforce, your key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the performance of the Service Delivery function, leading the team to provide safe, efficient, and high quality train services to meet KPIs and contractual SLAs.
  • Managing the operating expenditure budget and ensure optimal management and utilisation of financial resources to assigned projects.
  • Driving customer service and a customer-centric culture, fostering high performance through collaboration with peers and local authorities.
  • Leading, supporting and developing your team and workforce, driving employee- and union engagement and alignment with organisation objectives.
  • Managing the rolling stock contract and Auckland Network Access Agreement for the Auckland Rail network, that supports agreed outcomes for on-time running, customer service and safety compliance.

What you bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Logistics & Supply Chain management, Transport, Business or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership of large, operational, unionised workforces in the rail industry, preferably with experience in passenger rail.
  • Practical experience working in a client-facing, contractual environment, managing KPIs and performance metrics.
  • Capability to lead and engage a large team through change and projects.
  • Safety leadership, and a track record of strong safety performance whilst maintaining customer-focus and service-delivery.
  • Exemplary communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage at all organisation levels internally and externally.
