Operational Risk & Compliance Analyst, Finance & Analytics

The role:
 
Reporting to the Manager Operational Risk & Compliance, the role is responsible for supporting Finance & Analytics  Operational Risk & Compliance function as well as the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) framework in New Zealand,  including the operational support for the execution of all matters relating to 1LOD risk activities for relevant portfolios under responsibility and assisting with the  management of the Westpac New Zealand SOx requirements.     
 
Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain business unit compliance plans, including supporting WNZL Core Compliance and Group Compliance’s initiatives
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the business unit in accordance with the frameworks
  • Ensures that documentation for all processes across the business unit is reviewed and updated periodically
  • Analyse the impact of emerging or potential operational risk and compliance issues that are identified, and recommend a balanced risk/reward solution to the business
  • Liaise with Group Audit to ensure audit activities and assurance reviews (of portfolios under responsibility) and management are well coordinated with the business, audit issues are understood and that action plans are appropriate and achievable.

 
What you’ll need to succeed:
 

We’re looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.  Compliance and Operational Risk experience are a given for this role, as are your strong workload planning and time management skills. In addition, we are interested in talking to candidates with the following:

  • Tertiary educated in Finance or Accounting, with at least 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • CA, CPA or CFA qualified preferred
  • Experience within the financial services industry, with a good amount of time spent in Risk and Compliance related roles
  • Knowledge of NZ accounting practices and procedures; knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Auditing, and other risk control regulations and frameworks a plus
  • Understands effective control or mitigation options to manage specific risks; maintains composure when discussing control deficiencies or findings with stakeholders
  • Fantastic written communication and reporting skills 
  • Numerical analysis (spreadsheets and data) 
  • Project management experience.
