Technical Owner / Senior Architect – Westpac Consumer Village

What we’re looking for
We are looking for a strong leader who is an experienced Front and Back End architect and software engineer with strong knowledge in usability and mobile app dev to work closely with Business, Enterprise Architects and engineering squads.  You will be part of our Consumer Village ensuring that we deliver the desired customer and business outcomes while also driving the evolution of the technology product in-line with our strategic enterprise architecture.
While accountable for the solution architecture, pattern libraries, testability and deployability of software applications that support key WNZL consumer products.  You will be working with squads helping nurture a shared responsibility and common interest in maintaining and developing a quality product based on quality engineering practices & techniques. You will also be responsible for the health of the technology stack to ensure compliance with WNZL system health policies and regulatory requirements.
What you’ll do 

  • Work with the team to provide patterns to support the ‘big rock’ and ‘smaller rock’ solutions.
  • Develop people through coaching & mentoring, specifically around DevOps & Continuous Delivery principles and techniques.
  • Participate in web and backend engineering technology architecture discussions for product development
  • Advocate for development of good practices across relevant engineering practices.
  • Grow the technical expertise of your team on performance, scalability and maintainable architecture.
  • Advocate and promote leadership at all levels within the WNZL engineering community.
  • Work closely with Chief Product Owner (CPO), Release Train Manager (RTM), squads, product owners, enterprise architects and agile coaches ensure we deliver quality & innovative products to our customers.
  • Prioritisation and championing of technical work within Product backlogs
  • Be an active member of the “Technical Owners Community of Practice” and participate in other engineering and enterprise architecture communities.

Who you are 

  • You have experience leading, coaching, and mentoring individuals and teams.
  • You have experience as an Architect and will understand the balance required between intentional architecture and emergent design within an agile environment.
  • You are knowledgeable about development technologies.
  • You have a deep understanding of scalable systems.
  • You care about developing and growing people.
  • You preferably have large-scale engineering experience.
  • You have experience working in an agile environment, and are comfortable pushing teams to improve their ways of working
  • You are adaptable and resourceful and you are able to develop effective solutions to problems
  • You have experience with continuous delivery and automated testing
  • You value team success over personal success
  • You are comfortable communicating at all levels within a large enterprise.

As well as being able to facilitate the creation of an architectural intent in line with the WNZL Enterprise Architecture blueprint, ideally you will also have experience working in environments that have utilised the following programming languages and tools: 

  • Backbone, React JS

  • iOS, Android hybrid apps
  • Desktop browser single-page app
  • IBM MobileFirst.
