Immigrating to New Zealand

Visas

Before you make the move to New Zealand, you need to get the right visa. It is a condition of your employment offer with Auckland Council that you acquire and maintain the right to work in New Zealand for the duration of your employment.

An offer of employment can support your visa application, and you can submit it along with other application documents.

The Immigration New Zealand website has a wealth of information to help you complete the right visa application for you (and your family).

The New Zealand Now website contains plenty of information, tips and checklists to help you plan your move to New Zealand and settle in once you arrive.

It's a good idea to familiarise yourself with the Ministry for Primary Industries website and the New Zealand Customs Service website which have information on what to expect when you're entering the country.

Time zone

Auckland is 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and has 'daylight savings' when clocks are put forward an hour to 13 hours ahead of GMT. Daylight savings period runs from the last Sunday on September until the first Sunday in the following April, when clocks go back to 12 hours ahead of GMT.
