Why join us?

Chapman Tripp

It's a great place to be

Our firm is full of people who enjoy a challenge, team work and are prepared to have a lot of fun along the way. You’ll join a group of talented, high-performing people who believe in having a life outside of work. Whether you’re a marathon runner, dancer, film enthusiast, history buff or underground chef, we encourage our people to get out of the office when they don’t need to be here and lead a balanced life.

We like to think our people enjoy coming to work each day and we think we do a pretty good job at providing a great environment to work in. Our efforts were recognised by winning the Employer of Choice award at the 2014 New Zealand Law Awards and being named New Zealand Employer of Choice in the 2015 and 2014 Australasian Lawyer surveys.

Our workplace

We operate an open and transparent working environment and we make sure everyone knows what’s happening around the firm. Every quarter we hold a full staff briefing and lunch where members of our leadership team update the firm on achievements, our values and next steps. We also hold managing partner updates, involving smaller groups of legal and non-legal staff sitting down for a coffee with the managing partner to talk about firm strategy and answer questions.

You'll work in fantastic premises. Most of our teams work in an open-plan environment, which provides a great mix of collaborative and private spaces. Our partners and senior managers are accessible and there's plenty of opportunity for communication across and within teams.

Our people also benefit from a number of facilities, including large kitchen and lunch areas, coffee machines on each floor, break out rooms, fruit baskets and showers.

We are committed to seeing our people develop

Our comprehensive learning and development programme ensures you will continue to build on your expertise the whole time you are with us. A significant continuing legal education programme is provided and all our people benefit from unique in-house skills programmes.

Our commitment to high performance includes ensuring our people know how they are going. A review and planning programme gives a formal opportunity for feedback and discussion. It's structured, relevant and regular. You'll also get plenty of on-the-job feedback and coaching from colleagues throughout the year.

Mentoring is well established at Chapman Tripp. Traditionally viewed as the sharing of senior wisdom, our programme has proven to be something more. It creates dynamic relationships across all teams that benefit everyone.
