Data Scientist / Modeller

Aurecon is a global, market leading, multi-disciplinary consultancy that provides world class engineering, management and specialist technical services to clients across New Zealand and beyond. An independent, employee owned company, our people ‘bring ideas to life’ working alongside internationally recognised experts in multidisciplinary teams.

In our work, we handle data.  A lot of data.  By manipulating it correctly we can predict things, such as the level of rainfall that would overwhelm Auckland’s drainage systems, and where would be worst affected.  Using this prediction, we can then tell our client the risk of this happening, which of their systems would need upgrading to cope, in which order, and how much it would all cost.  As a result, our work has a real impact on the community.

With strong demand for our services, we now have a career opportunity for someone as passionate about data and mapping as we are. This is not a laboratory based or academic position, as you will be based in an infrastructure design environment, working with big data to see the patterns and tell a story that our clients can understand. This will involve 2D and 3D visualisations of the environment, mapping, and hydraulic models using software such as DHI Mike Urban, Infoworks ICM, and ESRI GIS packages. Experience with GIS or any of these software packages would be an advantage to your application, but you can learn them on the job.

You will be working alongside technical specialists covering geospatial information systems (GIS), digital solutions, hydrology, land infrastructure engineering, surveying, and other engineering disciplines. Your problem solving and strong communication skills will be critical to your success as you work with them to ensure our data is both accurate and accessible.

  • This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, growing team that offers:
  • Diverse, interesting and challenging work
  • Ongoing technical/ non-technical training and personal development
  • Local, national, and international career opportunities
  • Attractive remuneration that recognises and rewards performance

This position would ideally suit someone who has recently (within the last 1-3 years or so) completed a tertiary level degree in one of a range of disciplines such as mathematics, geography, GIS, geophysics, statistics, engineering science, or similar. You would need confidence working in a team, and familiarity with analysing and understanding data.

Aurecon is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from those seeking a flexible work environment.
