Junior Contaminated Land Specialist

Aurecon is a global, market leading, multi-disciplinary consultancy that provides world class engineering, management and specialist technical services to clients across the globe. An independent, employee owned company, our people ‘bring ideas to life’ working alongside globally recognised experts in multidisciplinary teams.

With a strong forward workload, we have an exciting opportunity for Junior Contaminated Land Specialist to join our Auckland Ground Engineering team. You will have a relevant postgraduate Science or Engineering qualification (Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology or Environmental Engineering). Research based postgraduate degrees with dissertation or thesis component is preferred. The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in contaminated land and ground investigation deliverables to support a diverse range of local and national clients.

This is a new position in a passionate and growing team, and will primarily involve site investigation, data collection and assessment, analysis and reporting. You will be conducting surface, groundwater, and gas sampling and monitoring. Local support from our more experienced team members will be provided.  You will be expected to develop your skills in technical delivery, client management, project management and business support.  This includes a strong focus on Aurecon’s commitment to zero harm in the workplace.

This is not a laboratory based or academic position. This is a hands-on role in an infrastructure design environment where you will be on site regularly, and will be responsible for writing factual and interpretive reports for our engineers and clients. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate or junior scientist with up to 2 years consulting experience.

The ideal candidate will understand or possess the following skills, attributes and experience:

  • Knowledge of Contaminated Land Management Guidelines, RMA, and NES
  • Investigation management and soil logging to NZGS guidelines
  • Human health and environment risk assessment including data analysis
  • Knowledge of conceptual site models and soil and groundwater remediation technologies
  • Exposure to GIS software
  • A valid full NZ drivers licence and current valid visa to work in New Zealand (or residency)

This role would be best suited to a professional, self-motivated individual focussed on collaborative team work and excellence in delivery. As this role will require regular client interaction we are seeking an individual with excellent oral and written communication skills. This is a unique career-development opportunity for a junior scientist or engineer looking to join a dynamic, growing team that offers:

  • Diverse, interesting and challenging work
  • Ongoing technical/non-technical training and personal development
  • Local, national and international career opportunities
  • Attractive remuneration that recognises and rewards performance

You will be supported by a team of internationally experienced professional engineers, chemists, environmental scientists, and geologists.  The team works closely with the wider Ground Engineering group including civil and geotechnical engineers.

Aurecon is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from those seeking a flexible work environment.
