Outage Planner & Scheduler

The Planner and Scheduler position is designed to present the most effective, efficient and safest way to perform work. This role will help to ensure that all of the required resources have been planned and/or determine the best time to perform maintenance work, when both the plant and the resources are available to execute the work. This role is part of the Generation and Development group and will report into the Outage Manager.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure that all activities and tasks are conducted in compliance with environmental consents and within station and company environmental guidelines and procedures
  • Ensure that safe working and occupational health principles and practices are known and observed, and that all safety rules and procedures are complied with by Contact and other personnel working on site
  • Take corrective action for all situations in which health and safety of the staff, plant equipment or the environment are at risk
  • Participate in the preparation of operations and maintenance procedures and standards
  • Train and coach other members of the maintenance staff when required
  • Maintain all required knowledge, competencies and qualifications to fulfil duties, e.g.: OSH, AHC, development training, etc.
  • Review and prioritise incoming workload in conjunction with the Asset Manager, Maintenance and Operations Supervisor.
  • Ensure that work assigned to an Outage is properly planned in the PM Order, including specifications of the job, and resources and time required
  • Planning all work safely. Confirm Safety Rules requirements and additional safety documentation/ information required by work teams
  • Core maintenance improvement processes
  • Deliver HSE Performance
  • Contribute to the development of maintenance plans
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all industry safety rules, codes of practice and regulations
  • Review and update SAP PM master data records to ensure accuracy is maintained
  • Arrange work into a logical and organised sequence taking priority, operation constraints and relationships into account
  • Deliver forecast schedule with materials, equipment, and resource allocation
  • Review and adjust schedule
  • Engage contractors for services ensuring the quality of the services provided
  • Ensure safety in combined scheduling of work and that the appropriate skills set has been assigned
  • Chair Outage execution meetings (morning Supervisors meeting and afternoon progress meeting)
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and skills of Quality Management System requirements, all relevant Health and Safety practices and procedures, and relevant legislative requirements
  • Maintain up to date, accurate and timely records of all key operational events, plant history and maintenance records
  • Review and improve scheduling processes and practices.
  • Contribute to the performance of the team by assisting in other areas or sites as required, including identifying opportunities for improvement of systems and processes, and suggest advice and/or strategies to other staff to minimise risks
  • Deliver a high, consistent level of customer service to key stakeholders ensuring that there are no surprises and all outputs are meaningful and assist strategic and commercial decision making

How you’ll be successful

  • All maintenance Outages will be well planned to ensure that the execution phase is completed in a safe and efficient manner by competent people within the timeframes and budget provided.
  • SAP plant maintenance data, check sheets, procedures, quality assurance documentation etc will be well maintained to allow work packs to be easily compiled.
  • Ensure high quality reports of outage activities and financial performance are compiled for future reference.

Type of experience you'll bring to the role

This position will require a broad set of skills and experience. Below are some of the key areas we will look at the successful candidate being able to demonstrate a deep understanding in.

  • Trade or operating background with sound experience in maintenance of equipment and systems, as well as experience with equipment/plant operation, and/or maintenance in a power generation or heavy industrial process environment
  • Ability to clearly convey information to colleagues and other business units
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including strengths in influencing, conflict management, and negotiation
  • Integrity and high personal and professional standards
  • Skilled at identifying and recommending cost effective solutions
  • Skilled in the effective resolution of complex issues and problems
  • Strong analytical and planning skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Exposure to systematic maintenance strategies and experience in condition monitoring
  • Inventory management or contract supervision experience
  • Trade / Technician Certificate in a specialist maintenance discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, etc) would be desirable
  • In depth knowledge of some or preferably all of the following: mechanical plant, heavy rotating equipment, electrical plant, control and protection systems, steam turbine technology
  • Awareness of budgetary management and the ability to work within financial guidelines.
