So, this is what disruption feels like! 

Let's start with a story. It's March 2020. Apparently, there is a global pandemic and it's finally reached the beautiful shores of Aotearoa. Things got serious quickly. We were told by Aunty Cindy to “stay at home” “wash our hands” and don’t deviate from our “bubble”. Our new daily ritual was a 1:00pm update on Level this and Level that. We shut our borders and half of the population became bread making wizards overnight. Nah, that’s crazy. Something like that would never happen. 

What's the purpose of that intro? Simple. Our world is different. It will never be the same again. While Covid has created some heart-breaking situations, we are extremely fortunate at Contact Energy to be given an opportunity to change the way we work. It’s a privilege we don’t take lightly. 

As part of this new world we are creating we are on a journey to build our digital capability. We are looking for a Senior UX Designer to join our whanau of digital futurists and innovators who are focused on a continuous process of designing, building, adapting, optimising and activating scalable product and service propositions to drive profitable growth.

How often have we heard that phrase? Well if we had to summarise this role in six words it would be exactly that. Let's bring that to life with a little more detail, you’ll be responsible for leading & creating UX artefacts such as interaction model, workflow, information architecture, schematics, wireframes and interaction/functional specifications for evolution of Contact digital channels. 

When we catch up for coffee and a korero you will have heaps of examples to share where you have:

  • Produced user-friendly and intuitive user interfaces by combining UX thinking with design execution
  • Designed and prototyped elegant solutions for web and mobile apps to roll out the E2E programme of work and beyond
  • Lead the design of UX processes, tools, and culture
  • Own the creation of user stories, personas, and storyboards along with the information architecture

We are after an apologetic, user centric human to join our team, you are comfortable being uncomfortable – facilitating workshops to spread the UX dream across the business and enjoy a bit of banter. We have a couple of other must have’s but here's the most important ones:

  • Customer research and insights, wire-framing and rapid prototyping, interaction design, strong communication skills
  • 5+ years of digital customer journey and digital product design experience across both web and mobile applications
  • You’re a meticulous craftsperson with strong attention to detail to know how to cut through to the essence of a problem and extract simplicity out of complexity
