The opportunity
 

We are seeking a lawyer with 8 to 10 years' post qualification experience to join the Auckland arm of our growing corporate and commercial practice. You will be involved in supporting our wider commercial team, which includes private client legal services, as well as our core corporate/commercial practice. You will also be involved in working alongside EY's Transaction Advisory and Tax professionals in multi-disciplinary teams.

  
Your key responsibilities:

  • Providing technical legal advice, both to internal EY teams and to external clients
  • Involvement in corporate and commercial transactions; including drafting transaction documentation and project managing a variety of international and domestic restructures
  • Contract drafting on a range of commercial matters
  • Supporting our Private Client Legal Services practice and providing advice to high net worth individuals, trusts and charities
  • Developing relationships with key members of other services lines within EY with a view to identifying opportunities

To qualify for the role you must have the following:

  • Experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer in a top-tier, mid-tier, boutique law firm or Big 4 legal practice
  • A detailed understanding of companies legislation, particularly around shareholder agreements, constitution drafting, corporate governance, fundraising, capital management (share buy-backs, dividends, reductions of capital)
  • Solid experience in contractual drafting
  • Experience in working as part of a team, with the ability to build effective internal and external relationships
  • A desire to be part of growing a global law firm, including participation in firm strategy, marketing and business growth initiatives
  • An innovative mind, looking for ways in which we can assist our clients to resolve their commercial problems more efficiently and cost-effectively
  • A willingness to co-ordinate and work together with the other teams within the EY Global network - EY Law is part of a global professional services network and a large part of our work involves working together with various other professional teams in various locations
