Employment and Health & Safety Law Leader, Senior Associate or Partner, Auckland

The opportunity


EY Law is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Associate or Partner to head our established Employment and Health & Safety Law practice. The candidate should have great market and client connections, a demonstrated ability to grow market share and have experience in managing a busy team working on national and international engagements. Individuals with a strong work ethic, outgoing personality and plenty of ambition will find this a perfect platform to further grow a thriving practice by cultivating an already well-established client base and attracting new clients. 

EY Law’s Employment and Health & Safety team primarily (but not always) deals with issues which are non-contentious in nature, including:

  • Advice on the full range of employment and health & safety obligations to a range of blue chip national and international clients
  • Drafting employment documentation, including incentive schemes, employment agreements, and policies and processes
  • Conducting holiday pay reviews and advising clients on holiday pay remediation
  • Employment law due diligence, negotiation and integration advice for national and international corporate transactions
  • Reviewing health and safety frameworks and processes and advising businesses on practical ways in which they can comply with their legal obligations
  • Working with our People Advisory Services and Advisory colleagues to assist our clients with the full range of people issues

Your key responsibilities

  • As a member of EY Law’s senior leadership team you will contribute to EY Law’s strategic thinking and direction and develop objectives for your practice in line with these objectives
  • Build relationships and maintain credibility in the legal and business community; being sought as a subject-matter expert, contributing to professional publications and maintaining personal networks
  • Anticipating employment and health & safety trends and develop and implement sales strategies and business development opportunities to generate new revenue across New Zealand in response to these
  • Driving revenue by exploring new and additional services, with a strong focus on technology, building out the client base as obtaining referral from existing and past clients
  • Develop and mentor junior lawyers with a strong focus on team leadership and collaboration

  • Commercially astute and able to talk about the law in a practical way
  • Natural relationship building and interpersonal skills

To qualify for the role you must have the following

  • A minimum of 10years of high quality employment and health and safety legal experience
  • A detailed understanding and demonstrative knowledge of employment law
  • Looking for genuine prospects for career development
  • Excellent client facing skills and strong commercial acumen
